On June 12, 30 volunteers counted wrong-way traffic and incomplete stops at Harbord Village intersections to better understand the risks to pedestrian safety. We spent from 7am to 10am and from 3pm to 7pm at eight residential street corners and the Harbord-Robert crosswalk.

UrbanToronto.ca tells us that Knox Presbyterian Church has filed an Official Plan Amendment application with the City of Toronto to redevelop its property on the southwest corner of Spadina and Harbord. The application presents two options, both calling for more residential density (including affordable units) along with an expansion of the existing church.
The Fort York Food Bank has moved to 380 College at Borden. Opening times are 9am to 2pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Around 60 clients a day now visit the site, and trucks from Daily Bread and Second Harvest deliver supplies twice a week each.
As a downtown residential area, we don’t get the same snow-removal service as other areas of the city. On Jan. 24, HVRA Board member Bob Stambula wrote to the Mayor and our Councillor depicting the problem vividly. He also pointed towards potential solutions.

As always on November 1, Harbord Street was glowing with pumpkins from Spadina to Borden. There were ghouls and ghosts and monsters and super heroes and, of course, one or two Donald Trumps. The chill of the night was warmed by hot cider from Her Father’s Cider Bar and Clay Design and steaming chai from Elchi Chai Shop topped off with cookies and butter tarts from Harbord Bakery.
