Our Net Zero Committee makes news

Matt Hoffmann’s lively and persuasive article in the Dec. 12 Toronto Star outlines why and how HVRA’s Net Zero Committee is working to help our neighbourhood reduce carbon emissions. Using the new Esso station on Harbord as an example, he reminds us that burning fossil fuel is a habit we take for granted—but also that we can change our assumptions. The Committee envisions Harbord Village residents pushing to transform houses and transportation choices in line with Toronto’s goal to be a Net Zero city by 2050.

Listing global climate initiatives already taking hold, Matt notes that local efforts can bring about exponential change: “Slow, tentative steps suddenly accelerate. Neighbours talk to neighbours, information flows, examples emerge…. We’re building social capital and momentum that just might generate non-linear change in our little corner of the world.”
