Are You Curious About Heat Pumps?
The Net Zero Neighbourhoods committee is excited to announce our latest project: heat pump parties. Whether curious or in need of a furnace replacement consider attending one of our monthly heat pump parties. Three residents of Harbord Village have kindly agreed to host parties in their homes. Come and learn more about heat pumps from a neighbour that already has one. Attendees will learn how heat pumps work, how much they cost and what rebates and loans are available to purchasers. How to ensure that you buy the right size and the installation steps are two other topics that will be covered.
Each of the free Heat Pump Parties will last 90 minutes and provide those interested with an opportunity to learn from heat pump owners and an expert. Refreshments will be served. Space is limited so register asap for only one of these free events. (If this month’s Party is fully booked, sign up for an upcoming event. You need not live in the Harbord Village to sign up. Everyone is welcome.
Heat pumps replace both gas furnaces and air conditioners and provide heating and cooling more efficiently. Very common in Europe, adoption here in Canada has been slower, but today most heating/cooling companies now recommend them. The big challenge is that when a gas furnace dies – usually on a cold winter day – the only same-day replacement is another gas furnace. If your gas furnace is 10+ years old, best to get quotes now on a heat pump, and consider making the switch sooner than later. If your furnace is less than 10 years old, one way to reduce most of its emissions is to add a hybrid heat pump. They are cheaper than a regular heat pump and work with a gas furnace. Hybrid heat pumps will provide all of the cooling and most of the heating that your house needs. Learn more about air source heat pump space heating and cooling.
