Kensington HC Hospice - Public Meeting

Dear Member of HVRA

As you will have heard, Kensington Health Centre [KHC] is proposing to turn the existing - and for the last 10 years or so, unused and empty- Chapel located on Major Street into a community Hospice for terminally ill patients. Part of the proposal includes restoring the original facade of the Chapel

You are invited to a public meeting to see the plans first hand and to discuss this proposal with Bill O'Neil of KHC and the architect

Place: The General Purpose Room of KHC, 25 Brunswick Avenue
[entrance is between Brunswick and Major]

Hello Wonderful HVRA Members,

The Board of the Harbord Village Residents’ Association and the City of Toronto Live Green programme are delighted to announce a pilot project that could make Harbord Village the greenest neighbourhood in the country.

Yes, that is right... HVRA is setting the standard in new territory yet again!! And in the bargain, we plan to make the expression - Think Globally: Act Locally come alive in Harbord Village

The City’s new Live Green Toronto program fights climate change by supporting community groups to green their own neighbourhoods. HVRA’s Home Energy Retrofit Subsidy programme (HERS) is among the first projects selected for City support.

The Chapel at Kensington Health Centre

Dear Member of HVRA
About 10 years ago when Drs. Hospital transformed itself into KHC, the predecessor of HVRA, the Sussex Ulster Residents' Association made the pitch that the Chapel at north end of the property and which was built in the early 1880's be preserved .
KHC agreed but on the proviso that KHC would not be responsible for refurbishing the building for some future tenant.... that such a tenant would undertake that makeover themselves and at their own expense.

No tenant ever materialized and so the Chapel has been un-occupied ever since.

This week I have been informed by Bill O'Neill, Executive Director of KHC that money has been found to refurbish the Chapel for the purpose of turning it into a Community Hospice.

The Pumpkin Festival - Night after Halloween

We have been talking about this event for some time.. this is your last reminder

On the day after Halloween we want you to all get a chance to show off your pumpkins a second time!!
So after your last kids have trick or treated you... take in your pumpkins because there seems to be a constant supply of youngsters who like to smash pumpkins late at night
And next day, Saturday Nov. 1, bring them to Harbord street any time after 3:30 pm -- head towards the blocks between Borden and Spadina. Volunteers from HVRA will assist you to find a spot on tables that will have been set up....
