The AGM is this Tuesday October 20---

6:30 for a 7:pm start - ends 9 pm sharp

The Agenda includes;
-Area Caucuses -where you decide who your Area Reps on the Board will be for the coming year and where you can report things of interest in your area.
-Reports from Committees of the Board - There has been an enormous amount of activity on many fronts.. come as see what we have been up to
-Election of officers for the coming year
-State of the Union by Councillor Adam Vaughan

Dick Nelles

Dear Members of Harbord Village
Some of you may remember Dick Nelles, indefatigable promoter of community in our part of the City.. Back then, where we lived was know as "Sussex Ulster" and Dick was as grand an exponent of how to do neighbourhood as ever lived
For those of you who may not have heard, Dick passed away last week at Kensington Gardens
For those of you who may be interested in honouring this good man, there will be a memorial service at Kensington Gardens tomorrow, Wednesday at 3 pm in the north building.

Special condolences and good wishes go from us to Dick's long time partner, Doris Adler

HVRA HERO Program Presents: Heating and Insulation 101

The HVRA Home Energy Retrofit Opportunity (HERO) project is having a home energy efficiency information meeting:

The HERO project is excited to have two excellent speakers to highlight some of the opportunities available to Harbord Village residents to improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

Melinda Zytaruk of Fourth Pig Worker Coop will talk about less toxic building/renovation material options, indoor air quality, and home insulation.

Trevor John of AtlasCare will talk about high efficiency furnaces, including what makes them high efficiency, what other benefits they offer, and why they provide the lowest life cycle cost, along with their environmental benefits.

HVRA and Escarpment Telecom

Hi there HVRA members

Bob Barnett, a resident of Harbord Village for over 30 years, is the Executive Director of the Escarpment Biosphere Conservancy, which is dedicated to creating nature reserves along the Niagara Escarpment and the Lake Huron shoreline. Since 1996, the EBC has created 84 nature reserves, protected over 7,000 acres of land and become the second largest regional land trust after the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

For more than 10 years Bob has also used Escarpment Telecom as a small fund raising venture. Using a Canadian company based in Nepean, Ontario, Telecom provides long distance phone services to customers at competitive rates. Instead of making a profit, 20% of customers’ phone charges are considered a donation to conservation. Customers receive a tax receipt for their EBC donation each year.

Two Initiatives for North Harbord Village

Hello Harbord Villagers

As you know there have been ongoing concerns with respect to the north end of Harbord Village exp around the nexus of Bloor and Brunswick

To this end, we are proposing two initiatives/meetings in concert with the Councillors' Office, the ARA and the HSRO and the two BIA's.

1: A Meeting [Yes another one!] with the operators of the Brunswick House

Date: September 9
Time: at 7:00pm
Place: Room 151 in the Rotman Building 105 St. George Street

Agenda: To attempt one more time to impress upon the owners that the business plan adopted by the Brunswick House is having a devastating impact on the community in which it does business..

Fall Fair Sunday September 13

Hello all you fine members of Harbord Village

Are you ready for the finest social event in the HV calendar?!!!!!

Yes in a few short weeks the longest running Residents' Association shindig will be underway - the first one was 1992 and so we are coming on to 20 years.
You will recall that Hurricane Hugo threatened a deluge last year and we cancelled in the face of dire weather reports
This year we are hoping we have paid our weather dues and the Fair will be on in full colour

Come along to enjoy:
-non stop music -folk, bluegrass, celtic, blues and a little rock
-beer and wine
-fab food: sausages, corn burgers, pita wraps from Ghazale, hot dogs cool drinks

Tree Tenders Training course - paid by HVRA!

HVRA's Treeing the Village committee is offering $50 scholarships to the first two members who are interested in taking the Tree Tenders Training course, as described below.
