Trinity-St. Pauls United Church is hosting their second contra dance on Saturday night, January 16th, at 427 Bloor Street. It is “souped-up” square dancing steps, with a caller guiding us, and live music with a fiddle band playing Celtic, Queceboise, and Southern reels and jigs. The dance is beginner-friendly, family-friendly, queer-friendly, and single-persons friendly. Children over 7 pick it up easily. Wear loose and comfortable casual clothing- or dress-up. Bring dance-friendly shoes to change into from your winter boots. Starts at 7:30.m. and goes until 10:30. Alcohol, drugs and fragrance-free zone .

1) HVRA's Home Energy Retrofit Programme (HERO) has been extended to the end of January, 2010.
That means you still have time to do as 115 of your neighbours have done: sign up for a HERO energy audit with Carson Dunlop. And once you've had the audit, and undertaken improvements big or small to improve the energy efficiency of your home - you will become eligible for provincial and federal rebates of up to $10,000. Those rebates are due to expire early in 2011, so don't wait too long.
Our 2nd Harbord Street Pumpkin Festival: Sunday, 5:30-9pm
Submitted by Gus Sinclair on 30 October, 2009 - 07:08.Please bring your family and friends to Harbord on Sunday evening, November 1st from 5:30pm to 9pm to enjoy our 2nd annual Harbord Street Pumpkin Festival. Just like last year, you will find several hundred candle-lit pumpkins - many skillfully carved, resting on sidewalk tables. Think of it as one big community art celebration.
Speaking of art, our first Pumpkin Festival Art Show will take place inside the former Miss Emma's storefront at 85 Harbord, where you will see displayed the works of 7 local artists. In the same storefront, HVRA will be giving away free hot cider and hosting a silent auction, thanks to the donations of meals and other gifts from generous merchants on College, Bloor and Harbord streets. The silent auction and the Festival as a whole are co-sponsored by the Harbord Business Improvement Association. Some of the proceeds will go to the Hospital for Sick Kids and the remainder to HVRA to support our many community projects.
$175 London Plane tree available $20
Submitted by Gus Sinclair on 29 October, 2009 - 22:18.Last Saturday, tree-planting crews fanned out across the Harbord Village and the Palmerston neighbourhood to the west of us to plant backyard trees. Due to a misunderstanding between a tenant and a landlord, we have a beautiful, healthy London Plane tree in need of a home.
What does it look like? It is almost 13 feet tall. Like all London Plane trees, it is medium drought tolerant, grows fast, and is adaptable to most soils. Fully grown, it is a large & wide tree with leaves that look like those of a maple. Best of all, it's bark is very attractive.
The tree cost HVRA $148, not including taxes or delivery. It is available on a first-come, first served basis to anyone who can provide it with a good backyard home, for a cost of only $20.
